For a first-time pageant mother, I was surprised (and quite overwhelmed) by the amount of work Selina needed to do before heading to the IJM International pageant. Engaging a coach was a big decision and a big financial investment too, but Serene was the real deal and she didn’t disappoint.
Serene has been through the system several times and her experience as a NAM National queen gave Selina valuable insights. It’s a lot for a seven-year-old to learn in a short amount of time but Serene pushed Selina to think about and improve her walk, routines, and her public speaking in a fun and focused way. Serene was tough but so kind and enthusiastic. It was a perfect combination for a coach.
Serene has more energy in her tiny body than most people can imagine – she never stops! It’s wonderful. From the moment she arrives until she says goodbye, you feel she is giving you her all. Serene helped build Selina’s confidence and belief in her performance so she could compete with girls who have been involved in pageants for years. Serene also encouraged Selina to just be herself and not to worry about what anybody else was doing or saying. I truly believe that’s what gave Selina an edge – she was completely delighted to show everyone what she had been working on and wanted to make as many new friends as she could. She had a blast on and off stage – even when she made mistakes!
